Motorists shouldn’t take advantage of the traffic jam

Road works have caused traffic jam on different Kigali streets

Editor,

On my Tuesday movement to Kigali, I was impressed by the road works on several Kigali streets. But one thing left me very upset. The journey from Remera to the city centre which normally takes about 20 minutes took me almost an hour due to traffic jam.

I felt some pedestrians walking on the sidewalk could be knocked down by motorcyclists, who, due to heavy traffic jam, resorted to riding on pavements.

To people who are unfamiliar with traffic jam, you could wonder what kind of motorists don’t respect the rights of other road users.

Some drivers were disappointed as the vehicles moved on a snail speed, with some abandoning the Kimironko and Remera routes which were so much affected.

This left many passengers stranded. I appeal to traffic police to be more vigilant and apprehend motorists who take advantage of the traffic jams breach traffic rules.
