WITH the World Cup spot safely in the bag, junior Wasps skipper Emery Bayisenge has challenged the team to go on and win the Caf U-17 championship.

The center-back told Times Sport yesterday that qualifying for the World Cup is a dream come true for the team and Rwanda as a country but that it would be even better if the team went on to lift the title.

"The confidence and motivation is there after qualifying for the World Cup so let’s make the most of it by winning the African title,” he said.

"Against Egypt, the teamwork was formidable and I commend the guys for believing and fighting until the last second of the game.”

Rwanda became the first team to qualify for the semifinals of the Championship following Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Egypt 1-0 at Kigali Regional Stadium.

Center-back Faustin Usengimana scored the all important goal to take his tally for the tournament to two.
The result also meant that Rwanda became the first African side to qualify for the Fifa U-17 World Cup to be hosted in Mexico in June.

With three more places up for grabs on the continent, Rwanda joins Uzbekistan, Australia, Japan, Korea DPR and hosts Mexico.

The junior wasps wind up their group A campaign tomorrow when they take on Senegal at Amahoro stadium but the fascinating game of the day will be the clash between Burkina Faso and Egypt at Kigali Regional Stadium.
