In a bid to bridge the digital divide, especially among the rural population, over 1,500 Rwandans have benefited from the services offered by Rwanda Development Board (RDB) mobile ICT buses, Wilson Muyenzi the Coordinator of e-Rwanda Project, announced yesterday.

"Since the beginning of last year, more than 1,500 people including women and local leaders in rural communities have benefited,” he said.

Muyenzi added that 484 farmers, 283 local leaders, 80 women entrepreneurs, 277 students and school children in four districts have so far benefited from the ICT training services provided on the buses.

"The services range from training on best farming practices by the use of video sessions, manuals and text books,” he noted.

Muyenzi emphasised that ICT buses are mobile telecentres or computer labs that make it easier, more convenient and affordable for farmers, traders, students, women, youth groups, entrepreneurs and other rural based Rwandans to access ICT services.

"The buses bring ICT services nearer to the rural communities rather than have them travel long distances to access ICT services,” he noted.

Muyenzi revealed that two more buses will start operations this month, concentrating on remote areas.
