The Nyagatare Intermediate Court, on Tuesday, reaffirmed its commitment to uproot corruption as it announced a week long anti-corruption campaign in Nyagatare and Gatsibo districts.

The campaign will run from January 24 to 31.
The anti-corruption week was held on the national level in December last year, when all judicial courts were on annual leave.

John Byakatonda, the court’s president said that the week is designed to sensitise residents on the dangers of corruption.

During the week, Byakatonda said that the courts in the two districts will also highlight the achievements made in 2010 in fighting corruption and set goals for 2011.

"We shall also have chance to meet the residents at the grassroots levels. We made a number of achievements that include putting anti-corruption sign posts at all courts in the districts,” he said.

Byakatonda added the court was able to sensitise the residents on their rights as stipulated by law.

"Judges in all courts in the two districts cannot preside over cases without first explaining to them that they have full rights to justice without any form of corruption,” he said.

The campaign will also see the courts holding anti-corruption discussions with residents.
