Gorillas are wild animals. In Rwanda, they live in Virunga and Mgahinga National parks in the Northern Province.
In July, baby gorillas were named at the Kwita Izina ceremony. This means gorillas are important in Rwanda.

They live in the mountains and make their homes in the green bushes because the weather is very cool up there.
Gorillas are the biggest animals in the primate family. The heaviest male weighs up to 220kgs and the heaviest female weighs 97kgs.

Gorillas have black to brown grayish hairs. When males grow old, they develop a strip of sliver-gray on their backs and are called Sliver-backs.
Just like people gorillas have 32 teeth and unlike monkeys, gorillas do not have tails.

Gorillas have very big stomachs because they eat too much food. Gorillas find green leaves very tasty so they spend most of their time eating and looking for food to eat.

The arms of Gorillas have large muscles than their legs and are also longer than their legs. This is because they use their hands to climb trees and for defense against their enemies.

Gorillas are very strong. They are six times more powerful than people. When people look at them so much, they make a lot of noise to scare them away. When they are disturbed, they beat up their enemies using their strong hands.
Otherwise, on a normal day they are very shy and peaceful animals.
