KIGALI - Police yesterday arrested four people in Remera, Gasabo District for allegedly counterfeiting different regional currencies.

Emmanuel Tuyizere, Samson Nzarora, Marcel Ngabonziza and Olive Uwibambe were arrested at a lodge in Remera which is believed to have been their base for conducting their criminal activities.

At the time of their arrest, yesterday evening, they were found with counterfeited Burundian currency worth 780,000, all in 10,000 denomination, and papers which they were to use to produce FBU20 million.

They were also found in possession of three laptops, scanner, ink, carbon paper, reams of duplicating paper and a paper cutter.

Police Spokesperson, Supt. Eric Kayiranga who confirmed the arrest, said that the quartet has been using the lodge as their office to carry out their activities.

"Lodge proprietors should be vigilant about the people they accommodate,” Kayiranga noted, adding that security mechanisms should be initiated to identify all those they accommodate.
