Head teachers urged to help reduce school dropouts

RULINDO - Secondary and Primary school head teachers in Rulindo District, have been called upon to reduce the number of school dropouts by providing quality education, during the 2011 academic year.

The call was made Friday by Mayor, Justus Kangwagye, in a meeting with over 100 head teachers and district officials at Nyirangarama Hotel.

"The District has employed education coordinators to help teachers provide quality education in all 17 Sectors,” said Kangwagye, advising the head teachers to maintain hygiene in schools.

Rulindo District Director of Education, Jean Nepomscene Basabose, said the district, has made tremendous strides in promoting the nine year basic education (9YBE) programme, where 110 classrooms will soon be inaugurated.

"There is at least a school in 70 of the 71 Cells that comprise Rulindo District,” said Basabose.

He added that the district’s vision, is to increase science subjects during the 2011 academic year.

"Inyange Girls’ Secondary School in Bushoki Sector, and Kiyanza mixed Secondary School of Ntarabana Sector, will start majoring in teaching science subjects, effective January this year,” added Basabose.
