The Minister of Defence, James Kabarebe has commended Nyabihu District leadership for being the least corrupt and urged them to stay the course.

He made the remarks, yesterday, at Rwankeri Secondary School in Nyabihu, where he was the guest of honour at an event to showcase the district’s achievements in the past five years as well as its Vision for the next five years.

"Corruption retards development, that’s why as a government, we appreciate your achievement as the least corrupt district and we encourage local leaders to desist from the vice,” said Kabarebe.

He also advised other districts in the country to borrow a leaf from Nyabihu.

"Rwanda is the leading country out of eleven in eastern Africa and the Horn of Africa in fighting corruption ,and for that matter, all levels of leadership should work hard to maintain that record and even perform better,” Kabarebe added.

He emphasised that there is need for good governance by district and all local leaders since it’s the only way that the war against corruption can be won.

Jean Damascene Ndagijimana the Mayor of Nyabihu, enumerated the methods used to fight the vice in the district, including setting up anti-corruption committees at grassroots level which sensitised the masses on the dangers of corruption as well as the punishments.
