Editor,
Allow me to thank the Senate of the Rwanda National University for endorsing the proposal to relocate the school of journalism from Huye to Kigali. Many practicing journalists based in Kigali will now have the opportunity to upgrade and get more skills to up their game.
Without training, journalists are at a great risk of misleading the public.
Journalists are the watchdog of the society and there is no way they can inform or educate the public when journalists are not trained. We have many practicing journalists who are not trained and have been in court several times over unprofessional reporting.
Instead of positive criticism aimed at providing solutions, some journalists simply insult or attack personalities. Also, students pursuing journalism will be able to work as freelancers as most of newspapers and Fm radio stations are based in Kigali.
