LONDON - The Rwandan Diaspora has launched a worldwide campaign to raise funds for assisting victims of the February 3 earthquakes that killed nearly 40 people and injured hundreds others in the Western Province.

The campaign was launched during last week’s extraordinary crisis meeting held in London by the Rwandese Community Association (RCA).

In a statement issued after the meeting, participants agreed to establish an electronic bank account for raising recovery funds from well-wishers around the world.

The account named IMIZI was opened up in the UK Cooperative Bank and can be accessed in all post offices across the globe.  The account number is 65252217 while its code is 08-92-99. 

During the meeting, the Rwandan Diaspora agreed on organising a fundraising concert in London that would also add to the funds that would be sent to Rwanda. 

Recently, the head of the Rwandese Community Association in the UK, Eliphas Sukiranya, said that the Rwandan Diaspora in UK cannot just look on when their fellow countrymen are in trouble.

In a related development, members of staff of The New Times Publications have also launched a one-week charity campaign to raise assistance for the victims of the earthquakes that mainly rocked Nyamasheke and Rusizi districts.
