As part of the ongoing reforms within public institutions of higher learning, students pursuing Veterinary Medicine at the Scientific Institute for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, (ISAE-Busogo) will be transferred to Umutara Polytechnic University.

The development was confirmed by Richard Karimba, the Vice Rector in charge of academics at Umutara during an interview.

"We are set to receive 124 students from ISAE-Busogo and the necessary infrastructure is in place to accommodate them,” said Karimba.

He added that students do not have to be worried because, they will join others who are doing the same course, saying that the university boasts of quality faculty members who will see to it that they get the best skills in the field.

The transfer was triggered by a cabinet decision to combine students who are doing similar courses in separate public institutions as a way of cutting costs on both lecturers and the necessary learning tools.

This financial year, the government decided to slash expenditure on public institutions of higher learning by 25 percent to strengthen the Nine-Year Basic Education Programme.
