Gambia vs Congo (Group B)
THE Baby scorpions of Gambia are already playing mind games after their latest remarks that they are afraid of no one at the U-17 Africa Nations Cup which kicks off this weekend.
The team’s coach Lamin Sambou recently said, "We have no reason to fear any one. We are the defending champions and there is great confidence in the dressing room.”
Sambou was forced to make last minute changes in his final squad after eight of his players failed the MRI age test in Egypt were the team had camped.
Wallidan FC center back Lamin Gibba happens to be one of the victims although Sambou has downplayed the incident insisting that the eight were never in his plans for the tournament.
"All the players I had in mind passed the test and are here (Kigali) with the team.”
Asked if he has any doubts about qualifying for the Fifa U-17 World Cup in Mexico later this year, Sambou declared: "We will certainly qualify.”
The Baby Scorpions touched down at Kigali International Airport last evening and headed straight to Rubavu, the venue for all Group B games.
Congo Brazzaville, Ivory Coast and Mali complete the group. Gambia are chasing for their third title after winning the competition in 2005 and 2009.
