RAYON Sport coach Emmanuel Ruremesha has refused to give in on the title race despite trailing reigning champions and table leaders APR by 11 points with two more games to play in the first round.

The blues have won 4, drawn 4 and lost only one of their nine primus league matches this season and with new owner Albert Rudatsimburwa ready to reinforce the side during the transfer window, Ruremesha insists that it would be premature to rule them out at this stage.

"They (APR) are in a strong position but at the same time, they have a lot on their plate.  On top of the league, they also have to feature in the Orange Champions League, Kagame Club Championship and MTN Peace Cup so it is going to be tough for them to remain consistent and hopefully, we shall cash in on that,” the former Atraco assistant coach said.

"It is still a long season and we can recover. We have drawn so many games (four) but I think the race is still open at the moment. Our focus now is to have some consistency of our own and avoid dropping points,” the 38-year-old added.

On Sunday, Rayon bagged their fourth win of the season after seeing off a stubborn Amagaju side 2-1. Abed Mulenda scored a brace to take his tally to five this season.

The result left them on 16 points, one short of SC Kiyovu who are second after a comfortable 2-0 win over Mukura, who are just a point above the drop zone.

Elsewhere, AS Kigali moved into fifth place after edging Etincelles 2-1. It was their fourth win of the season.

Meanwhile, the league has been put on hold to pave way for the eagerly awaited Caf U-17 Nations Cup which kicks off this Saturday at Amahoro stadium.
