Despite failure to secure a top spot, Rwanda’s long distance star Dieudonne Disi outpaced Kenyan born and World champion Paul Kosgei in the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) international half marathon on Friday in United Arab Emirates.

Disi who clocked 61:07, finished eighth while his rival Kosgei finished tenth with a personal time of 62:17 respectively.

Kosgei has a world class personal best of 59:07 and recorded an enormous success in Berlin last year with the second fastest time ever with 59:07. He also won the 25km race of Britain in a World record time of 1:12:45.

Disi told Times Sport soon after the Friday race by phone that he never displayed a good show thus a poor finish.

"To me it is a poor finish but nevertheless I still have many championships that will create room for improvement,” Disi said.

This was the second international race for Disi after the Puerto Rico San Blas half marathon where he finished fifth last week.

Disi is expected to head back to Puerto Rico for the ‘Best 10km race’ due next weekend.

Kenyan international Patrick Makau won the Rak international half marathon race clocking 59:35 beating fellow countryman Moses Tanui’s record of 59:47 set in 1993.

Ethiopian debutant, Tsegaye Kebede came second with a time of 59:35.

In the three years since Makau began running seriously, he has established himself as one of the world’s leaders at the half-marathon, underlining that with victory in Berlin nine months ago in his fastest yet, 58:56, and then finishing second in the world championships last October.

Dickson Marwa of Tanzania had his best race ever, coming from behind to beat his more famous colleague, former world half-marathon champion Fabiano Joseph for third in 59.52. But Joseph was rewarded with his first sub-60 clocking, 59.56.

Kenyan born internationals Mekubo Mogusu, Matthew Koech and Kiplimo Kimutai finished in 5th, 6th and 7th positions respectively.

Kimutai beat Disi to win the Puerto Rico San Blas half marathon race a week ago. 682 world athletes took part in the lucrative the 2nd edition of the Rak half marathon race
