2010 was marked by success - Kagame
Every year has its unique opportunities and challenges, but 2010 will go down as a year during which Rwanda registered remarkable successes, in her pursuit for socio-economic development, democracy, human rights and many other fronts.

The observation was made by President Paul Kagame on Thursday at Village Urugwiro during the end of year party he, and the First Lady Jeannette Kagame, hosted for central and local government officials, top army and police officers, diplomatic corps, members of the private sector, as well as representatives of the Rwanda Diaspora.

The Head of State noted that it has not been an easy task to attain what has been achieved in the past 12 months.

The President went on to thank everyone who contributed to the cause of nation building.

Diaspora to act as Rwanda’s ambassadors
After completing a two-week country familiarization tour, members of the Diaspora, on Wednesday spelt out seven resolutions that include correcting the falsehoods that are peddled about Rwanda.

The group is in the country as part of the "come and see” programme organized by the government to facilitate members of the Rwandan Diaspora to witness firsthand the remarkable progress the country has registered and understand the vision of Rwanda.

Diaspora members also attended the just concluded eighth national dialogue, the Diaspora retreat, as well as the "Bye bye Nyakatsi” Expo.

They extended special gratitude to President Paul Kagame for the plans he has for the country.

Over 50,000 immunized against polio in Rubavu

The just concluded nationwide immunization campaign against polio has seen Rubavu District immunize 59, 000 children under the age of five against the disease.

Speaking yesterday during the publication of statistics for the campaign in the district, Dr. Patrice Karumugabo, the Director of Gisenyi Hospital, said that the exercise was a huge success in Rubavu.

He also attributed the high turn-up to the full participation of local leaders right from the cell to the district level.

Police break Bangladeshi human trafficking ring
Police have arrested a Bangladesh national who is suspected to have been smuggling people from his country to Mozambique, through Rwanda.

Sattar Miah arrested, on Monday evening, in Okapi Hotel at about 22:00 hours where he has been staying and conducting his illegal activities.

Police also discovered two residential houses in Gikondo and Kacyiru which accommodated 30 and 24 Bangladeshi male respectively, who had been brought in the country illegally by Sattar.
