The Executive Secretary of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) has said that the electoral body plans to begin the final exercise to update and correct the voters register tomorrow.

This is part of the preparations for the upcoming local leaders elections scheduled for February and March.

Last year NEC organized a highly successful presidential election that saw a massive voter turnout on polling day.

The presidential poll, demonstrated the high level of competence and professionalism on the part of the electoral body.

This was undoubtedly a result of meticulous planning and participation in the process leading up to the elections by all the stakeholders, especially the voters who showed great enthusiasm in fulfilling their civic duties.

It is important that voters, once again, participate in this final phase of updating their information where necessary, and help the Electoral Commission to maintain a valid voters’ register.

That way, they will not only be fulfilling their civic obligations, but they will also be participating in the process of strengthening democracy in the country and playing a vital role in national transformation.

Once again, Rwandans have an opportunity to elect their local leaders. These are the leaders who live and interact with the masses at the grassroots most of the time.

It is important that people at the local level fully participate in the process of identifying and electing leaders who share the national vision for Rwanda’s development, with the same enthusiasm they displayed during last years’ elections, given the importance of local leaders in service delivery at the grassroots.
