Each year has its new styles in terms of fashion trends. 2010 was such a fashion year that some of the things that made headlines in the fashion world will still be worn or accessorized this coming year because they are still stylish to stash them away! The things that made headlines over and over again in the fashion tabloids during the season are;

Oversized hand bags

The first place to start is with the day bag. These oversize day bags you could carry a change of clothes in along with anything else that crossed your mind. I love my bags big and I don’t think if I will get over these big tote bags. One designer after the other featured these big tote bags in almost all their collections. I don’t think if I can carry any bag less than these ones, so for me the fashion of big tote bags continues!

Skirts

There is no reason eligible women should not wear a skirt when they want to. Every woman needs to feel attractive and good about her body. If a woman works hard at looking good, then wearing a skirt is something that she should take advantage of and do as she pleases. A great skirt is a must have for any woman’s wardrobe. From the bohemian to high waisted skirts, all these were in the fashion trends in 2010. Not forgetting the gypsy skirts and the pencil skirts which have been in and out of fashion every year. Mini skirts are also fun pieces of fashion. They have also never really been out of fashion and they keep on returning as a feature piece every few seasons. So get ready to see more skirts in 2011.

Blouses

We saw the sari blouses, oversized tops, wrap blouses, bow tie blouse, stylish shirt dresses, button down blouses and even checked blouses were all hot for the season 2010. The most prized of the tops in 2010 was the peasant top! Peasant tops are versatile and can be worn by just about all plus size women- I too made sure I had mine in the wardrobe. The traditional, ultra-feminine peasant top with long fluttery sleeves and an off-the-shoulder cut are ideal for those wanting to draw attention to the upper body. They have been popular during the entire season and I do hope up to the next season as well!

Jewellery

Bold jewellery was also a fashion statement in the year 2010. Designers made sure that they featured bold jewellery in all their collections last season. Wearing oversized pearls was also a hot trend last season-these large pearls can be beautiful-a real fashion statement-in necklaces, bracelets, and earrings!

Long strands of lustrous imitation pearls and wrapped-layer long strands of pearls with gold and silver chains made headlines with celebrities running to own a piece each. One can have so much fun creating their own look and sense of style!

Skinny jeans

I must admit to being very intimidated by skinny Jeans when they became popular again a few seasons back until one of my sisters bought two pairs for me. At first I was very hesitant to wear them, but then I tried them and have never felt or looked better when going out! The versatility of jeans is what makes it so incredibly popular. Skinny jeans can be worn in a casual style or dressed up for a night out or any style in between. Look for a pair of jeans that flatter the body type and enhance the positive aspects of one’s figure and overall shape if you still haven’t got one for yourself- for this piece of fashion will be around for a very long, long time.

Shoes

Shoes are given a special place in the fashion world, it is no wonder you can never have too many good friends and too many good shoes. Every year designers bring the latest fad in for us and this year too was not an exception. Be it knee-high boots or thigh high ones, the boots have been all over the ramps and in almost all the collections of each designer this year. An easy to wear flat thongs and gladiator sandals in colourful patterns was also ideal footwear for the 2010 season. Gladiator shoes managed to be in all styles including knee high boots and sandals as well. These versatile shoes not only makes the feet look beautiful but they are also perfect for casual look.

Dresses

Mrs Obama topped the world of statement dresses in the fashion world during the entire season. From floral to plains to belted, she wore all of them and in great style. From long sleeved to short sleeved dresses, 2010 was a year to reckon with dresses. There is no need to say how much the dresses were liked by both designers and fashionistas- you could it all in the magazines. Some dresses came in as simple and even had a casual look. But others are purely feminine and sophisticated, a style perfect for a red carpet wear like the maxi dresses which were favoured by Angelina Jolie, Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton. Rihanna made her way with a short dress too.

All these and many more made headlines during the year 2011 in the fashion world, we can only cross our fingers and wait patiently for what 2011 calendar of fashion will have to offer!
