Pair gets Caf nod for U-17 CAN

THE Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has named two Rwandans on the refereeing list for next month’s U-17 Nations Cup to be held in Kigali and Rubavu.

THE Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has named two Rwandans on the refereeing list for next month’s U-17 Nations Cup to be held in Kigali and Rubavu.

Hudu Munyemana is one of eight center refs while Felicien Kabanda will keep track of the action from the sidelines alongside seven other assistant referees.

Munyemana and Kabanda got the nod following their vast experience. The pair has officiated at several regional and continental tournaments.

CAF’s refereeing manager Bester Kalombo made the final list public yesterday, according to reports from the local football body, Ferwafa.

Other center referees in the fray include Martins de Carvalho Helder (Angola), El Ahrach Bouchaib (Morocco), Bennacuer Kacem (Tunisia), Alioum Neant (Cameroon), Kaoma Wellington (Zambia), Solomon Kaoma (Zambia) and Desire Ivory Coast’s Doue Normandiez . Adam Cordier of Chad and Guinea’s Mario Aboubacar Bangoura are on stand-by.

Assisant referees include Patrick Bimbyo (Gabon), Djibril Camara (Senegal), Moffat Champiti (Malawi), Diarra Balla (Mali), Jean Claude Birumushahu (Burundi), Bootun Balkrishna (Mauritius) and Mehmed Naseraldin (Libya) while
South Africa’s Enock Molefe and Angola’s Manuel Candidi Inanciao wait in the wings.

The January tournament will merge eight teams pooled in two groups. Group A has Rwanda, Egypt, Burkina Faso and Senegal while Group B pits defending champions Gambia against Ivory Coast, Congo Brazzaville and Mali.

Rwanda will open their campaign next Saturday (January 8) against Burkina Faso at Amahoro stadium before playing Egypt (January 11) and Senegal (January 14) respectively.
With the top two in each group guaranteed a spot at next year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico, Tardy is desperate to rewrite history by becoming the first coach to guide a Rwandan side to the World Cup.
