Nyagatare - The Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Protais Musoni, the caretaker for Nyagatare and Gatsibo districts, has told Nyagatare residents to work hard and strive for better performance by the district.

The Minister was, on Tuesday, addressing local authorities and opinion leaders from the sectors of Karangazi, Katabagemu and Nyagatare at Karangazi sector offices.

The Minister’s meeting with the residents, according to Nyagatare District officials, was part of his three-day tour of the district. He is expected to hold the same meetings in other sectors of the district.

He reminded the residents that it is through their joint cooperation with leaders that the district’s once outstanding performance can be relived.

"You all know very well that Nyagatare was once the best performing district…you have to jointly work hard to revive its good image,” the Minister who was flanked by the district mayor said.

Musoni said that to put the district back on track, five things needed to be done; making the right choices, hard work, cooperation, income generation and education.

"With all these points we have counted on our five fingers…we can achieve whatever we want,” the minister told residents.

He challenged residents to positively respond to government programmes like the elimination of grass thatched houses commonly known as ‘Nyakatsi’, keeping the district green and maintaining hygiene, community credit and savings cooperative (Umurenge Sacco), among others.

During the meeting, the residents assured him that the issue of Nyakatsi will be no more by January 5.
