Editor,
Due to poor state of Nyabugogo taxi terminal, it was imperative that it is rehabilitated on a short term basis as studies on the requirements by the master plan for a modern taxi terminal are underway.
Therefore, Nyarugenge District and ATRACO entered into an agreement for the transport body to rehabilitate the terminal.
The rehabilitation works required about Rwf450 million. It includes the construction of a drainage system, parking yard, fencing and landscaping. An international company, STRISCO Ltd, won the tender to rehabilitate the taxi terminal. The work was supposed to be completed in December 2010.
But due to the delays in securing funds, the rehabilitation works didn’t start in time. However, with the support of Kigali city and Nyarugenge District, ATRACO managed to raise all the funds and the work is at an advanced stage.
Given the work at hand and the effects to business in Nyabugogo area, the work on Nyabugogo taxi terminal will be completed and in operation by the 3rd week of January, 2011.
We appreciate the support of different stakeholders in this project and request the business community and the public, in general, to bear with us on the inconveniences caused by this work, but we believe it was paramount that this taxi terminal be rehabilitated.
We request the people who operate around the Nyabugogo Taxi terminal to endeavor to keep their premises clean.
