GICUMBI -  The Anglican Church of Rwanda has named Bishop Emmanuel Ngendahayo as the new Bishop for Byumba Diocese. Ngendahayo replaces Bishop Onesphore Rwaje, who was transferred to the newly created Gasabo Anglican Church Diocese. 

Speaking at the handover ceremony at the  Byumba Anglican Church conference hall on Monday evening, Rwaje said that it was time to take on new responsibilities.

"After serving for 19 years as Bishop of Byumba Diocese, God has called me to render further services to Christians of the newly created Gasabo Diocese,” he said.

Rwaje advised his successor to work hand-in-hand with the Diocese’s pastors and local authorities to further develop the diocese.

"The road to success requires humility and perseverance,” he noted.

Among the responsibilities handed over to Bishop Ngendahayo were the Diocese’ bank account with Rwf 69m.  The diocese employs more than 400 people who manage various income generating projects among other responsibilities.

On his part, Bishop Ngendahayo promised to spearhead the spirit of team work

"My 13 years of experience as a Pastor in the Anglican Church has taught me to embrace teamwork as the only solution to success,” he said.

Gicumbi Mayor, Bonane Nyangezi, promised to work closely with the new bishop to spearhead development of the District.

"Byumba Anglican Church Diocese is a great partner of the district in as far as development is concerned,” Nyangezi noted.

Ngendahayo will be inaugurated on January 9.
