A feasibility study is underway in Nyabihu District, Western Province that will see the area getting a state-of-the-art dairy factory estimated at Rwf3 billion whose construction will commence in March next year.
According to Jean Damascene Ndagijimana, the district Mayor, the capacity of the factory will be established after the feasibility study ends this month.
"The dairy factory will help locals get their milk and other products processed which will improve the quality and productivity,” said Ndagijimana.
The factory which will be located in Mukamira Sector, has received a contribution of Rwf2 billion from the government through Rwanda Development Bank (BRD) while more than 1,200 residents will have a shareholding of Rwf 600 million.
"The government’s contribution is to empower the local population economically but they have to work for the self sustainability of the project,” added Ndagijimana.
The factory will serve the districts of Rubavu, Nyabihu, Musanze, Rutsiro, and Burera among others.
The dairy will have all the chains of a diary factory which are milk, water and juice.
The Mayor encouraged residents to abandon the traditional ways of farming and embrace the modern system which is more productive and profitable.
