Nyagatare - 118 classroom blocks for Nine-Year Basic Education (9-YBE) programme will be fully completed in Nyagatare District before the beginning of the academic year that begins on January 10.

Speaking to The New Times on Monday, Martin Hakizimana, the district Director of Education, said that they have set a tight deadline that will see all classrooms fully complete before the next academic year.

Nyagatare is among the districts with many classroom blocks that will be constructed in the second phase of the nine-year-basic education programme.

According to Hakizimana, 30 classrooms have been completed and ready to accommodate students, while the remaining 88 classrooms await roofing.

He said that the district had set up to the end of December for completion of the classrooms but some construction materials were still in the ministry’s stores.

"I am in close contact with officials at the ministry of education to send us materials in time,” he said.

He however said that if given materials on time, all classroom blocks will be completed this week on all 27 sites in the district.
