Worth every penny
Once a year, we get the chance to celebrate the birth of our savior Jesus Christ on Christmas Day. Therefore, I’m going to endeavor and stick on Jesus Christ as the cause, rather than get lost in translation like many societies that now perceive the day as simply one of fun, family reunion and personal reflection.

On Christmas Day, all churches in the whole world are filled to the brim, in the evening, they are drunk in the bars- a reflection of how people understand its origin, but don’t act accordingly.

When I was little, Christmas is the only day I looked forward to because I would get the chance to eat all the food I had not eaten that year, see people I had taken long without seeing and best of all, have a new suit.

Everyone, from my parents to the maid, looked smart in their new clothes.

With my other young relatives and friends, after church, we would play in the compound, each with a bottle of soda in the hands, while my parents and their friends discussed inside the living room.

In the evening, we would go to the zoo and look at big snakes, funny monkeys and hyenas, then crown it all with a very nice meal in a restaurant.

Later in the night, the older relatives would creep out of the house as we slept and go to disco for a good time.

Just like it was in my family, Christmas time has always been a starry moment in the lives of many people. Every single moment of fun has been worth it, every single penny spent to make it glamorous has always been worth spending.

People have utilized the Christmas spirit to bring their lost family members together to have a good time and reminisce some of the old memories. To make a family reunion perfect, there must be sufficient and delicious food and drinks for everyone.

The old who prefer some liquor and the kids who love cake and other sugary foodstuffs should not be left out.

For everybody to have a good time, the organizers must budget for this day and make sure that they have enough money to buy everything in time before the big day.

For the poor families deep in the village, half the day is spent in church thanking God for the birth of a Savior and for the imminent New Year which would come the following week.

You find a family in the village slaughtering a calf on Christmas so that there is enough beef, not just for the family members, but for the needy around them.

See, this all proves one thing; spending on Christmas is not as selfish as some people might believe. The Christmas spirit is all about love.

To spend not just for your satisfaction, but for your wife’s, kids’ and friends’ satisfaction. If you could go one extra mile further and brighten the face of an orphan by buying them a new shirt, or put a smile on an inmate by taking them food-then that is the ultimate reason for Christmas.

Do not hesitate to spend this Christmas, as long as you it will put a smile on someone’s face.
