The chief of Traffic Police, Chief Superintendent Vincent Sano, has revealed that two people died in separate road accidents while three others sustained minor injuries on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day across the country.

Two of the accidents that claimed lives happened in Rubavu District, Western Province.

"Generally, the traffic situation was calm,” said Sano.
He also said that seven vehicles where impounded for ‘drunk driving’.

Previously, Sano had said that the reason there weren’t many accidents is because of tight the measures initiated to ensure road safety during the festive season.

He said that more traffic officers were deployment on roads, especially in Kigali where most road accidents are normally registered. The other, he said, was sensitizing the public to be vigilant. 

Police sent out text messages, urging people to drive safely, avoid drunk driving and not children under 18-years of age to go in bars and night clubs.
