GICUMBI - Catholics have been urged to emulate Jesus Christ’s love for children by being at the forefront in caring for and defending children against all forms of social injustice.

The call was made on Saturday at Byumba Catholic Church Diocese during prayers to mark Christmas Day.

"Christians should extend love to all children regardless of their family backgrounds, by providing them with parental care, education and healthcare,” said Father Materine Habumuremyi,.

He also urged Christians to be at the forefront in defending children rights.

"These include defending children against hard labour, violence and all forms of social discrimination,” he said.
He reiterated the need for Christians to preach the gospel of unity and reconciliation in order to cement love among Rwandans.

The prayers were also marked by thanksgiving and baptizing children.
