KARONGI - Former beneficiaries of the government’s one cow per household programme (Girinka) in Bwishyura sector, Karongi District ,yesterday pooled together 12 calves which were given to those without.

Handing over the cows, Sebastian Hakizimana, the district Vice Mayor in charge of economic affairs, reminded the beneficiaries to make maximum use of the
cows.

"These cows will help you to improve both your social and economic welfare, so you should endeavour to make good use of them,” Hakizimana said.

He encouraged them to emulate their benefactors by giving the off springs of their newly acquired cows to other poor people when the right time comes.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Immaculate Makurata, one of the beneficiaries could not hide her excitement.
"From this cow, I will be able to get both milk and manure for my garden and this will help improve my agricultural production,” a joyous Makurata said.
