Dear Editor,
I used to hear with political analysts referring to former President of Kenya Arap Moi as a professor of politics. Indeed, during Moi’s rule in Kenya, he harassed his political rivals but Kenyans never rioted.
Today, one would be tempted to praise Moi for keeping peace in Kenya. However, he is partly responsible for the current crisis in the country.
Moi just like other African leaders used suppression as a method of rule. He failed to build strong institutions and therefore power was centered around him.
Perhaps the biggest political blunder that Moi made was at the eve of his retirement - supporting an unpopular candidate - resulting in the defeat of KANU.
All that we see in Kenya today is as a result of the absence of a political force to fill the gap left by Moi and KANU.
It should therefore not surprise anyone that the political professor is not bothered by the what is going on in his own country.
After all, he sowed the seeds of the mess.
