Editor,
As a resident of the Eastern Province, I read with concern a story which appeared in The Newtimes, yesterday, that authorities and veterinary experts in our Province had warned that a rabies outbreak could possibly spread among humans in the area, if not contained.
This is sad news, especially for parents. Many children now in vacation tend to wander in the neighborhood. It’s very hard to have them at home 24 hours.
I don’t think threatening to kill all unvaccinated dogs or those that are not attended to by the owners is the best approach, at least in the long-run.
I think prevention is better that cure and leaders in the area must ensure that the animals are vaccinated. We all know that unvaccinated dogs cause rabies. We need help from all districts.
