Gatsibo - Police in Gatsibo district have arrested six people in connection to the murder of two girls and their father, on Tuesday night.

According to Police, the deceased were identified as Didas Nsabimana, 53 and his two daughters; Saveline Nyiraminani, 21 and Joseline Mukamuvunyi 15.

"They were attacked and hacked to death by unknown assailants who used machetes,” a police officer said.
When The New Times visited the scene on Wednesday, the family’s neighbours had gathered around the home of the deceased.

"We are very shocked by such an incident in our sector. We just have northing to say.  It’s beyond our control,” one resident said.

According to the residents, the bodies of the deceased were found lying in a pool of blood early Wednesday morning.

"I woke up early in the morning, on my way to work on a banana plantation, I passed by the deceased compound, where I found three dead bodies lying in the compound,” a local area resident, Munyemana said. "I screamed and the other residents woke up.”

Police is still investigation the motive, but area residents said the family was involved in bitter wrangles over an arranged marriage involving one of the girls who were murdered.

The father of the girls left behind three other children. He lost his wife a while back.
The district mayor, Anselme Rurangwa Majoro said in a telephone interview that the district was considering ways of helping the orphans.

The deceased bodies were taken to Kiziguro Hospital for postmortem.
