The Rwanda High Commissioner to India, Williams Nkurunziza, this week, paid a visit to the data centre at Telecommunications Consultants India, which facilitates the e-learning programme between Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) and Indian universities, using V-SAT technology.
His visit came just days after the first group of students graduated in different categories after completing their studies, using e-learning tools.
During the visit at the facility, Nkurunziza interacted with students and faculty members at KIE using the same technology that students use to follow lectures from Indian universities.
In his remarks, the envoy noted that both India and Rwanda are pleased with KIE.
"The journey of one thousand miles begins with one step, we’re now proud of the undertaking made by the KIE centre being the first in the continent to host such many students,” Nkurunziza noted.
According to Irénée Ndayambaje, the coordinator of Tele-Education at KIE, the Centre currently has 287 students, offering nine different programmes from three Indian Universities - Amity University, Indira Gandhi National Open University and University of Madras.
Alphonse Kamali, the Vice Rector in charge of administration, highlighted the benefits that the project is bringing to KIE, Rwanda and the entire continent in general.
"We, as an institution will continue to provide all the required facilities to ensure that the initiative is a success,” said Kamali.
The e-learning Centre at KIE is operated by Pan African e-Network (funded by government of India) and provides Distance Learning through the latest V-SAT technology.
