Peter Mugiraneza, a resident of Kimisagara, said in an interview that several residents in the area are now buying 20 liters of water at Rwf300. The average price of 20 litres of water is Kigali is Rwf 50
"The people in charge water supply in this area have not even come out clearly to explain to us what the problem is,” he said, adding that the problem has paralyzed several businesses in area.
According to officials at RECO/RWASCO Muhima branch, which oversees water supply in the area, the problem is caused by the low levels of pump pressure to enable the supply water to the hilly areas.
Evode Mungarurire, the branch manager, said that they are working hard to replace the old pumps, as well as seeking other alternatives like a possible establishment of water reservoirs at the most hilly areas.
