KIGALI - The Vision 2020 Umurenge Programme (VUP), yesterday, received 30 laptops and 60 printers to facilitate the office activities in sectors.

The equipment, valued at $85,000 was handed over to provincial Governors yesterday, by the Minister of Local Government, James Musoni.

VUP is an integrated local development programme which operates at the sector level to accelerate poverty eradication, rural growth, and social protection.

There are currently 90 sectors under VUP. With the donation, all the sector officers are now equipped with computers and printers. Other offices were also equipped by UNICEF last year.

Musoni who commended UNICEF for being a supporter of the VUP, appealed to the beneficiaries to use the donated equipment to duly fulfill their duties.

"These facilities are a big contribution. They are important work tools which are going to improve the performance of VUP down at the grass root level,” he said.

The Minister reminded districts and sector officials to take advantage of the equipment to submit their reports on time and ensure proper data entry.
