Rwanda  v  Morocco (June 14)

Morocco v  Rwanda (June 21)

Rwanda’s opponent in the 2010 African/World Cup qualifiers Morocco have sacked their French coach Henri Michel over failure to get past the first round of the African Nations Cup in Ghana.

Michel has been fired not only for lack of results for the Atlas Lions but for his non-sporting behavior. He strongly criticized his players after the Ghana defeat on Jan. 28.

Michel reached the African Cup final with Ivory Coast in 2006 and coached the Elephants at the World Cup that year.

Morocco who won the African Cup in 1976 were dumped out of the African Nations Cup in Ghana after losing to hosts; Ghana and Guinea and only managing one win over minnows Namibia.

He was in his second spell with Morocco after coaching the Atlas Lions from 1996-2000. His contract was due to expire in 2010.

Moroccan football federation has named Jamel Fethi to replace Michel in a caretaker role until a full-time coach is hired.

Morocco is one of the teams that have left Rwanda working excessively in ensuring early preparations for its national team, Amavubi Stars ahead of their tie mid this year.

Rwanda is seeded alongside Mauritania, Ethiopia and Morocco.

Rwanda will face Ethiopia away in Addis Ababa on June 7 before hosting the Atlas Lions on June 14. The Amavubi Stars will then fly to Rabat on June 21 for a return leg against the North African giants.

On September 7, the 2007 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup losing finalists head to Nouakchott for the second leg against Mauritania before winding up the campaign at home when Ethiopia are the visitors on October 12.
