The Angolan outgoing ambassador to Rwanda, with residence in Addis Ababa, Manuel Domingos Augusto, yesterday, paid a courtesy call on President Paul Kagame, to bid him farewell before returning home to take up his new job as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.

Domingos Augusto met President Kagame on the sidelines of the 8th National Dialogue at the Parliamentary buildings.

The Angolan diplomat, who also attended the dialogue, described the relations between Rwanda and Angola as "excellent”.

"As you might know, I have been the non-resident ambassador to Rwanda. I have been called back home to serve as Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and as a duty, I came to bid farewell to the President,” Domingos said.

"The President was kind enough to meet me and gave me an overview about the situation in Rwanda and I also took time to congratulate him upon this important gathering (The national dialogue)---a very important meeting for the country to build the way forward,”

The envoy, pointed out that his discussions with President Kagame centred on the relations between Angola and Rwanda.

"We talked about the relationship between the two countries and what we must do to strengthen our bilateral relations and also how we can work together to create a better environment in the Great Lakes Region,” he said.

"The relationship between our countries is very excellent and historically, we have always been together for, not only, the benefit of the Angolan and Rwandan people, but also for the region,”

Domingos noted that since the economies of both countries have improved, there should be more business opportunities.

He said that now that RwandAir, the national carrier, has grown into an experienced and equipped airline, it should begin to conduct flights to Angola for the benefit of the business communities of both countries.

Domingos added that, at the highest level, President Kagame and President Dos Santos will continue engaging to take the cooperation further, not only between the two countries but also regionally and continental.
