CONSTRUCTION work on Umuganda stadium, one of the venues for January’s Caf U-17 Championship is on track and progressing well, with the Ministry of Sports and Culture (Minispoc) confident all deadlines will be met.

Minispoc’s Permanent Secretary Jean Pierre Karabaranga told Times Sport recently that much of the work has been done and that the stadium should be ready by December 27.

"The artificial turf has been laid; dressing rooms and the stands are ready,” the official revealed adding that what is left is only cosmetic upgrades.

The other venues for the continental showpiece which runs from January 8-25 include regional stadium in Nyamirambo and Amahoro national stadium in Remera.

The junior wasps are drawn in Group A alongside Burkina Faso, Senegal and Egypt while Group B pits reigning champions Gambia against Congo Brazzaville, Ivory Coast and Mali.

The top four will qualify for next year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup scheduled to run from June 18-July 10 in Mexico.
