RWANDAN rugby is reaping  big. Following Silverbacks’ recent success in the CAR 15s, Rwanda has been selected to host next year’s Africa Division 2 tournament.

While the dates are yet to be confirmed, participating teams include Tanzania, Seychelles, Burundi, DRC and of course hosts Rwanda.

The technical director of the national rugby federation Gerald Nsenga is one of those who believe the CAR 15s tournament worked in Rwanda’s favour.

"Everything went according to plan in the CAR15s and you could tell that the match officials were very impressed,” Nsenga noted.

"We have the ability to organize big tournaments and I think that is why they (CAR) selected us,” the official added.

On a whole, 2010 has been a success for Rwandan rugby.  On top of retaining the CAR15s title, the Silverbacks also put in a spirited show in the Kwoloo 10s rugby tourney in Hong Kong back in March.

2011 however promises to be more congested with the Kwoloo 10s, Safaricom 7s, Africa Division 2 tournament and Hima 10s all in the mix.
