Rwanda 1-0 Tanzania

The national junior soccer side, the Junior Wasps of U-17 overcame Tanzania’s Serengeti Boys in the opening game of a Tri-Nation Cecafa tournament played yesterday at Amahoro national stadium.

Skipper Emery Bayisenga converted a penalty on 20th minute to earn a win for the hosts, who were playing for the first time in-front of their fans following their months-long intensive preparations held inside and out of the country since May.

The three-nation tournament, which is organised by Cecafa and the Sports ministry, is aimed at strengthening the Rwandan side ahead of Africa next year’s CAF U-17 finals.

The Junior Wasps’ performance was only good in patches against a Tanzania side which was constituted mainly of players, who featured in the Cecafa U-20 tournament mid this year held in Eritrea.

Proline based Charles Tibigana dribbled from the right flank eliminating Samuel Nicombora and Mkunde Jonas only to be fouled by central defender Nkondo Hassan in the goal area a feat which forced Kenyan referee Davies Omweno to give a penalty to the hosts.
