Editor, OK !!!! What’s with all that fuss about local football being in doldrums? Editor,
OK !!!! What’s with all that fuss about local football being in doldrums? It’s true that the latest FIFA World rankings (132nd and 37th in Africa) left a bitter taste in the mouth of most Amavubi fans, but we ought to remember that even the greatest teams in the world were not built over night.
The current European and World champions Spain were built over time. So, we need to give Amavubi head coach, Sellas Tetteh, time to develop a winning side and that calls for utmost support from the government, through the Ministry of Sports and Culture, the local football governing body (Ferwafa), but above all, the team needs patience from the fans.
Right now, Amavubi is a work-in-progress just like it was highlighted in yesterday’s New Times edition.
While everyone expected more from the just -ended Cecafa –Tusker tournament in Dar es Salaam, reaching the last eight was a commendable effort for Tetteh who is trying to groom a youthful side, a philosophy which has been widely-criticised by a certain section of Amavubi fans.
We have the Africa Nations Championship coming up, so let’s wait and see how the team fairs ,but I can guarantee you that with Tetteh, the team is in good hands.
Going by his pedigree, there is no doubt that he is the perfect man for the job.
