PRIMUS National Football League (PNFL) champions APR hope to extend their winning streak to six games when they play away to struggling AS Muhanga this afternoon.
The military side has enjoyed a bright start to their title defense following a run of five wins but their temperament will be put to test following injuries to four first team regulars in right back Albert Ngabo (ankle), Malawi international Elvis Kafoteka (back strain) and the striking pair of Abbas Rassou and Emmanuel Sebanani a.k.a Crespo.
Rising star Kipson Atuheire, who featured for Amavubi at the just ended Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Dar es Salaam, is also ruled out following delays to secure his international transfer certificate from former club SC Villa but Johnson Bagoole should make his long awaited comeback.
In yesterday’s pre-match interview, APR’s assistant coach Eric Nshimiyimana said, "We have a couple of players out for the Muhanga game but we believe we have enough resources to take three points.”
"Muhanga is struggling. They have not picked up a point from their opening five games but we don’t want to dwell so much into that. Out target is simple, to win and if possible win big,” he continued.
Muhanga’s poor form has left the club’s head coach Sosteine Habimana’s job under threat.
Elsewhere, AS Kigali clash with newly promoted La Jeunesse at Kicukiro turf, Marines hosts Amagaju at Tam Tam while Mukura host Musanze.
Tomorrow, Etincelles host Police before what is expected to be a mouth-watering clash between historical rivals SC Kiyovu and Rayon Sport at Nyamirambo stadium.
APR top the league chart on 15 points. Etincelles are second with 11 points while Rayon and Police are tied in third place with nine points.
