Six arrested for robbing French businesswoman

KIGALI - Six people have been arrested for allegedly stealing $20, 000, Rwf 2.4m, Euros 1,000 and a laptop from Walter Camilla, French business woman based in Rwanda.

KIGALI - Six people have been arrested for allegedly stealing $20, 000, Rwf 2.4m, Euros 1,000 and a laptop from Walter Camilla, French business woman based in Rwanda.

The suspects, are believed to have connived with Camilla’s house helper, Chantal Nyiraminani. The robbery took place at Camilla’s home in Kimironko, Gasabo District.

Police also recovered $3, 000, Rwf 523, 000 and the laptop, only. Also impounded, was a motorcycle, two television sets, an amplifier and a home theatre. The Police said, the suspects had used some of the money to buy products that would help them start up a barber shop.

The Gasabo District Police Commander, Supt. Dismas Rutaganira, said that 80 percent of the theft cases reported in the district, involve house helps, and called upon employers to always keep the identification details of their workers.

"But people should desist from keeping big sums of money in the house,” Rutaganira cautioned.
