KIGALI - In a bid to strengthen efficiency and effectiveness of the declaration of wealth by public officials, the Office of the Ombudsman has introduced a new method of declaring wealth using the internet.
Speaking to the media after launching the programme yesterday, Ombudsman Tito Rutaremara said that the online declaration of assets will enable people to declare their wealth on time.
"In as far as vision 2020 is concerned, promotion of Information Technology is priority, so it’s in this regard that we have introduced this service as this will be more secure and less time consuming,” Rutaremara said.
He added that this will help the office of the Ombudsman to save money that was, otherwise, used to visit those who meant to declare their wealth and from printing the wealth declaration forms.
Rutaremara said that they will go around the country teaching people how to use the online service.
Approximately 6,000 public officials declare their wealth to the office of the ombudsman.
