THE long awaited U-17 tri-nations aimed at fine-tuning the junior wasps ahead of January’s Caf  U-17 Championship has been pushed to Saturday.

The local football federation (Ferwafa) had no choice but to delay the tournament by an extra day following changes in flight schedules for Kenya and Tanzania, the two other contenders.

The Tanzanian team, Serengeti Boys and their Kenyan counterparts are now expected to jet in this afternoon.
The tournament, jointly organized by Ferwafa and the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) is being funded by the Ministry of Sports and Culture (Minispoc).

It is also the final preparation for Richard Tardy’s team after what was a productive stint in Tunisia.

While in Tunisia, the youngsters who were gelling as a team won three games, drew two and lost one.

Tardy’s assistant Aloys Kanamugire yesterday said, "We want to give these boys a chance to get used to competitions. It is also a good forum to have a final look at the players before naming the final squad.”

In the Caf U-17 championship, Rwanda is drawn alongside Burkina Faso, Senegal and Egypt in Group A while Group B pits reigning champions Gambia against Congo Brazzaville, Ivory Coast and Mali.

The top four teams will qualify for next year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup scheduled to run from June 18-July 10 in Mexico.
