RWANDAN tennis has been boosted with 150 rackets worth $150.000 from Euroelite, a tennis camp for junior players in Sweden.

The owner and director of the camp Dave Bandelin told Times Sport that he was appalled by the sight of youngsters taking turns on a racket during a working visit last year.

"It was a touching moment for me to see enthusiastic young players who loved the game but couldn’t play because they couldn’t afford basic equipment. So when I returned to Sweden, I mobilized a few friends and some organizations and we bought rackets for these players,” Bandelin said.

So far 100 rackets have been shipped into the country, with 50 more expected before the end of the year.
The technical director of the Rwanda’s tennis federation (RTF) Thierry Ntwali acknowledged that the rackets would go a long way in boosting the sport.

"Over the years, so many young players have been detered by lack of equipment so we (federation) thank Euroelite for their contribution,” Ntwali said.
