A Canadian firm, Novatech Group Inc , is in the final stages of setting up shop in Rwanda. Novatech, which specialises in low cost housing and door fabrication, has seven factories across Canada. Once established in Rwanda, the factory will be Novatech’s first foreign investment.
Speaking to The New Times on Tuesday, Raymond Ouellette, the group founder and president, said that, currently, they are carrying out a feasibility study in the country, and the plans are to establish a door fabrication factory next year.
"We want to open a door fabrication factory, that will also be making frames,” Ouellette said, adding that the factory will mainly employ locals.
He also said that they will start the construction of low cost prefabricated houses for low income earners.
The cost of the house, Ouellette said, will depend on one’s financial capacity, but the lowest could go to $15,000.
Ouellette, who is in the country for the second time together with his wife, said that he found Rwanda to have a conducive atmosphere and market for their products.
