The National U-17 team yesterday put in a spirited performance to hold top flight side Police Fc to a 1-1 draw in a friendly match played at Regional stadium in Nyamirambo.
Striker Charles Tibingana scored first for U-17 team but Ugandan striker Meddie Kagere equalized for the Primus National Football League side in the second half in a pulsating match that was characterized by flying tackles.
Richard Tardy’s team are preparing for the African U-17 Championship that will take place in Rwanda early next year.
According to information from the national football federation, Ferwafa, the junior side will also play two international friendly matches against Tanzania and Kenya between December 17 and 21.
The U-17 side is drawn in Group A alongside Senegal, Egypt and Burkina Faso and will open their 2011 U-17 Africa Youth Championship campaign against the latter.
Group B pits reigning champions Gambia against Ivory Coast, Mali and Congo Brazzaville.
The tournament will be jointly held in Kigali and Rubavu. The top four will qualify for next year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico.
