Rwanda’s famous cultural troupe, Indatirwabahizi, was crowned the winner of this year’s Regional Cultural competition in a shock victory over favourites Kenya and Uganda, in an event held over the weekend in Kampala, Uganda.
Rwanda’s famous cultural troupe, Indatirwabahizi, was crowned the winner of this year’s Regional Cultural competition in a shock victory over favourites Kenya and Uganda, in an event held over the weekend in Kampala, Uganda.
According to results revealed by the jury, Rwanda scored 91% in dance and continued to shine with 83% in songs. The aggregate points landed Rwanda the victory
Kenya and Uganda became first and second runner –ups, respectively.
Throughout the competition, the Rwandan troupe wowed the audience and received glowing comments from the judges.
Jacqueline Umulisa, the head of Indatirwabahizi, told The New Times that the group has participated in various cultural dance competitions across the world, a factor that contributed to its success.
"We have won several awards in different competitions, including in Spain, Japan, and Holland, Algeria and Italy,” Umulisa said.
She added that foreigners admire Rwanda’s cultural dances.
Speaking at the event, Jeanne D’arc Gakuba, the Kigali City Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, applauded Indatirwabahizi for raising the country’s flag high on both regional and international scene.
