Kamonyi athletics club dominated this month’s national inter-clubs competition held at Eto Kicukiro grounds.
The Southern Province club scooped 25 medals including 10 gold, six silver and nine bronze, followed by APR that won ten gold, four silver and eleven bronze.
Kamonyi won ten gold, six silver and nine bronze medals respectively to confidently beat defending champions APR to the top spot.
APR came in second position with ten gold, four silver and eleven bronze medals while the National University of Rwanda (NUR) settled for third position with four golds, 13 silver and four bronze medals respectively. New Athletics Club (NAS) could not full utilize home advantage as they only won seven medals including one gold,
four silver and two bronze medals to finish fourth. Muhanga won only two medals; one gold and one bronze while Burera won only one gold medal to come in fifth and sixth positions respectively. Only six clubs out of the 18 that had initially confirmed their participation took part in the one-day event that was organized by the local athletics governing body, RAF.
The six clubs entered a maximum of three athletes in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m and 10000m while one team was entered in the 4*100m and 4*400m relays. Two athletes from each club competed in long, high and triple jumps respectively.
