Last year’s Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results left a lot to be desired.

The broad objective of establishing Education For All at primary level is to increase literacy; which in itself is not an end, but means for citizens to fully exploit their potential.

However, some children do not actually attend classes. My personal observation is that some parents are simply ignorant about the importance of education because they were themselves not educated and find no problem in that.

Others are just too poor to provide the basics such as uniforms and other scholastic materials.

However, some children also luck morale for school. Some girls who cannot afford sanitary pads to use during menstruation periods often drop out of school.

The Ministry of Education needs to help parents and children to improve student’s performance and morale to keep in school.
