The media is sometimes fond of misrepresenting facts, in complete disregard to truth and facts.

Ideally, the media should be a reliable source of information for the public, so it should endeavour to always give correct data so that the public is not misled.

Just as an example, the Ugandan media on Monday got it wrong. The Daily Monitor, a Ugandan newspaper in its front-page story titled, Kenya: Kagame calls for a re-run referred to President Paul Kagame as "a Major General in the Rwandan Army",

The implication here is that Kagame is still a serving officer in the army, which is not true.

As such, reporters/journalists should always check and crosscheck their facts before filing reports.
